ABOUT THE PANEL
Immigrant Rights, Racial Justice and New Visions of Citizenship
The questions of who is allowed to migrate and belong urgently beg to be answered, as the U.S. and the Europe increasingly militarize their borders. How are current social movements envisioning new definitions of citizenship and belonging? Historically, what have been the shared mechanisms of exclusion as well as efforts for equality between immigrants and racialized “Americans How is the current global refugee crisis calling for new visions of citizenship and belonging? How can historical and contemporary narratives impact our work in various sectors?
Featuring: Peter Kwong (CUNY Graduate Center/Hunter College), David Levy (Facing History and Ourselves), Tania Mattos (UnLocal), Abraham Paulos (Families for Freedom), & Christina Antonakos-Wallace (with WINGS and ROOTS; moderator)
We hope you will join us, and help spread the word! Sample social media language and event flyer follow!
