Dear friends and beloved community,
In this hopeful moment of global uprising against anti-Black racism and for human dignity at large, it gives me tremendous joy to announce that FROM HERE premieres today!
The film is viewable from June 11-20th as part of the Human Rights Watch Film Festival NY Digital Edition with a live Q&A on June 14th at 8pm EST.
This moment is 15 years in the making, and it could not be more meaningful to me to share it with you.
I invite you to buy a ticket before they sell out! Quantities are limited, and available only in the U.S.
Watch the film, sign up for the Q&A. Offer your feedback on social media. Use our home viewing kit to speak with your own friends or family as you watch the film together. Share your experience with us.
And most importantly, help us spread the word about FROM HERE and the conversations the provokes. There is sample social media language below.
In solidarity,
Christina Antonakos-Wallace & the FROM HERE team
PS: Our protests are working. I write a mile away from the autonomous zone in Seattle where the SPD has abandoned its offices and the streets are occupied by peaceful protesters. Monuments to slave traders and colonizers are being destroyed. The confederate flag is being banned. And finally, what was supposedly impossible is happening– the police are being defunded by schools, universities and local governments across the country so that those resources can be used for community-based solutions. Thank you to everyone receiving this email who has personally marched or contributed to efforts to defend the sanctity of Black life in this watershed moment.
