The 2020 Human Rights Watch Film Festival has gone digital, offering a nationwide audience the chance to experience its powerful slate of films. Among the U.S. Digital Festival Premieres is From Here, directed by Christina Antonakos-Wallace. This marks a significant moment for the festival, which is continuing its tradition of showcasing urgent human rights issues through film.
This year’s festival lineup features a diverse collection of documentaries addressing global crises such as criminal justice, reproductive rights, and racial inequality. From Here joins films like Belly of the Beast and Maxima, all highlighting the resilience of individuals standing up against injustice. The festival also features online screenings with filmmakers and discussions about the pressing human rights issues explored in the films.

John Biaggi, Director of the HRW Film Festival, said, “At this time when the world feels most intensely the interconnectedness of humanity, the festival was more determined than ever to showcase a full slate of essential films presenting urgent human rights issues we can all relate to. Now more than ever, human rights are global.”
