Stand up for Immigrant Families 6/30 (Newsletter)

Dear Friends,

I owe you an update about With Wings and Roots. There is good news to share. But right now I am compelled to write you for another reason: to ask you to demand that families are reunited by joining an action on June 30th at one of +600 events across the U.S.

The onslaught of attacks on migrants in the U.S. is reaching a fever pitch: the Muslim Ban, children stripped from families, women refugees denied access to asylum, criminalization of all migrants, and a threat to due process.

Today there was some minor relief, as a CA judge ordered that the 2,300 separated children be reunited  with their parents within 30 days. But Trump is already pushing back, and this is nowhere near a solution. Immigrants are Trump’s and the European right-wing’s most consistent scapegoats. Their politics of fear have been effective, resulting in dire consequences.

This is going to be a long, hard fight. We have to stand up right now, and be ready to do it again soon.

Please join me and thousands of others this Saturday June 30th for a National Day of Action. Let's show that these small concessions will not quiet our collective moral outrage at the attacks on immigrants’ basic humanity and right to survive.

During its best moments, the United States has created institutions and practices that protect and embrace intellectual, cultural, and religious diversity. At its worst, policies of white supremacy and nationalism have led to genocide, slavery, forced assimilation and incarceration.

The only safeguard against these horrors is our commitment to say #NeverAgain and fight for a future we believe in.

Bring your friends and your families. Join us Saturday wherever you are.

In solidarity,

Christina Antonakos-Wallace
