This Weekend: Media Workshop for Seattle Youth (Newsletter)

Dear Seattle Friends,

I hope this message finds you well! I am writing to let you know about a youth media workshop that With Wings and Roots is offering this coming Saturday in the Seattle area in partnership with Young Women Empowered. We would very much appreciate your support in spreading the word with young people or adults who work with youth!

Oct. 29, 2016 10-4 pm at El Centro de la Raza, Room 309

With Wings and Roots invites young women and trans youth (14-22) for a day-long media workshop. We will explore immigration, racism and identity through various filmmaking, writing and visual art activities, with the goal of better understanding our own stories as well as political debates. Participants will produce short videos, poetry, and visual art. The workshop is being offered in partnership with Young Women Empowered and Reel Grrls, and is supported by the Office of Arts and Culture of the City of Seattle. Free, incl. breakfast and lunch. Register: https://rbnw.eventbrite.com/

Also, save the date for December 3rd from 3-5pm for Reimagine Belonging: Northwest Stories. We will be sharing the work produced at the workshop, as well as other stories and performances at El Centro de la Raza. It is going to a lot of fun and I'd love to see you there!

In other news, this has been a year full of travelling between the West/East Coast of the US, and Germany to organize a series of public workshops and events exploring immigration, racism, storytelling, and education. Parallel, we continue to make final touches to the film, and look forward to releasing it in a few months.

Thank you for all of your support, and for helping us to spread the word about the workshop. We will be in touch soon about the event in December!

Best regards,

Christina Antonakos-Wallace & the With Wings and Roots Seattle Team
